Dr Simmonds has helped students to recognise that accessing psychological support is a positive action to take as they learn to manage their mental health.
At Invicta Grammar School, we are extremely aware that nationally, there is a growing number of teenagers who are facing mental health challenges. We recognise the need for our students to have support available to them - in an environment where they are comfortable; thereby enabling them to achieve and maintain good mental health. This will help youngsters achieve their full potential in the long term - both personally and academically. Having experienced the long waiting lists of external adolescent support services, we set up a partnership with Psicon Psychological Services, which would allow us to offer our students, on site specialist support in this field. Dr Simmonds has worked with Invicta for over a year and has in that time, helped us to enable specific students develop good mental health. He sees our students by referral, on a one-to-one, supporting them with coping strategies in their personal challenges and working towards individual goals. In bringing this service to our school, we have noted a hugely beneficial impact on our students. Dr Simmonds has helped students to recognise that accessing psychological support is a positive action to take as they learn to manage their mental health. We have also been able to use his expertise to develop the therapeutic skills of our pastoral staff who work closely with our students every day. Our links with Psicon have been invaluable for staff, students, parents and the school as a whole.
